چکیده

A concurrent engineering-oriented design database representation model (CE-DDRM) is introduced in this research for supporting various life-cycle aspects in concurrent design. In this model, concepts and behaviors of different design database modeling components, including entities, properties, relationships, tasks, and specifications, are defined at meta-class level. Design database is modeled at two different levels, class level and instance level, representing generic design libraries and special design cases, respectively. A Web-based system architecture is proposed to model distributed design database and allow team-members for different product development life-cycle aspects at different locations to access the design database. This newly introduced approach provides the foundation for developing the next generation CAD systems with concurrent engineering functions. q 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A Matrix Approach to the Customer-oriented Product Design

A customer-oriented product designer must rely on many types of information, including customer-product requirements and design developments in the related fields. Concurrent engineering applications in product design problems will help designers to systematically consider relevant design information and make the most effective use of the time they devoted to the design process. Even though man...

An Object-Oriented Formalism for Feature-Based Distributed Concurrent Engineering

The use of feature-based design and Concurrent Engineering promises substantial benefits but their successful implementation is hampered by the lack of a suitable formalism, particularly where, as is often the case, participants are geographically separated. This overall research area can be termed feature-based distributed Concurrent Engineering (FBDCE). The work presented in this paper is foc...

Concurrent Data Materialization for Object-Relational Database with Semantic Metadata

For a company with many databases in different data models, it is necessary to consolidate them into one data model interchangeable and present data in one data model concurrently to users. The benefit is to let user stick to his/her own data model to access database in another data model. This paper presents a semantic metadata to preserve database constraints for data materialization to suppo...

Manipulating Geometry in a STEP DB from Commercial CAD Systems

It is difficult to access and share design data among heterogeneous CAD systems. Usually different CAD systems exchange design data using a neutral format such as IGES or STEP. A prototype STEP database has been implemented. The prototype system uses the OpenCascade geometric kernel and the commercial object-oriented database ObjectStore. STEP provides the database schema. The STEP database has...

Databases from an Agent-oriented Perspective

We regard a database as a computer model that enables us to simulate different modes of interaction with a real-world system. We describe new agent-oriented modelling principles that can be used to construct such models. These principles use systems of definitions ("definitive scripts") to record the current values of real-world observables, and represent a far-reaching generalisation of the pr...
